Our History
The church was formed in early 1964, and services were held in the annex of the Holiday Inn's kitchen on US 41. There was plenty of room, but also plenty of noise from pots and pans!
An eight-acre lot was soon purchased on Saunders Road (the present site), and the funds were pledged and a mortgage obtained to build the present parish hall. This would serve as a church, parish hall, kitchen, and Sunday school. Chairs and kneelers had to be set up and removed each Sunday. During the service, there was no doubt that we knew when the school was in session!
By 1967, the church had been growing, so the much-needed education and office building was built. In those years, a popular fundraiser was our annual antique show, which brought in dealers from all around. After a few years, we had to stop due to a long-drawn-out reconstruction of our street.
Our church continued to grow and had its ups and downs, along with a normal change-over of vicars and rectors. The back four acres of our property were sold at one time to bring in needed funds.
Plans for the present church building were made in 1984. After much planning and fundraising, it was finished and dedicated on Palm Sunday, 1986.
The Vestry
Our Vestry is a very hard-working group of people who face a big challenge: keeping our church running and helping in our community.
If you are interested in serving God and our Church as a member of this important group, please see Carolyn Eubanks, Senior Warden
The Vestry meets the second (2nd) Monday of every month.
